Why Should You Not Tape Your Windows During Hurricane?

Taping your windows during a hurricane does not protect them. 

A lot of people think putting tape on windows during a hurricane will somehow stop the glass from shattering or reduce the damage, but that is not how it works. It is more of a myth than a safety measure. When a storm hits and strong winds throw debris at your windows, tape does nothing to stop the glass from breaking. In fact, if the glass does shatter, tape can make the situation worse by creating bigger, sharper chunks instead of small, less harmful pieces!

Also, when people tape their windows, they might feel like they have “done enough” and skip out on taking better precautions, like installing storm shutters or getting actual impact windows. That is where the real danger comes in. Taping gives a false sense of security and leaves you vulnerable during a storm.

Instead of spending time taping up glass, it’s better to focus on real protection, like investing in impact windows that are built to take the hit. Hurricanes are serious, and your window prep should be, too.
