3 separate PGT warranty documents exist today, so it matters which one applies to your order. PGT's warranty information page (pgtwindows.com/warranty) links a New Construction Warranty, a Replacement Product Warranty, and an Export Warranty, each covering WinGuard®, EnergyVue®, ClassicVue Max®, Sparta™, Scout™, Estate by PGT®, and PGT® Commercial windows and patio doors. The Replacement Product Warranty, document MA0200810, applies specifically to products manufactured after September 1, 2026 for installation into an existing structure in the United States. PGT states directly: 'Products purchased for installation into new construction and storefronts have different warranties.' If your home is an existing structure and your windows or doors were manufactured after that date, the Replacement Product Warranty is your document. Homeowners may also be holding the 12/2025 document (MA0200731) or the older 08/2019 version. Always confirm the effective date printed on the document that shipped with your order before making any claim.
In both the 2026 and 08/2019 documents, coverage periods start on the date of product delivery by PGT, not the installation date or permit-issuance date.
What the PGT Windows Warranty Covers by Component
PGT's Replacement Product warranty (effective September 1, 2026) divides coverage into 2 owner tiers and 5 component categories.
PGT's Replacement Product warranty (effective September 1, 2026) divides coverage into 2 owner tiers and 5 component categories. The Residential Dwelling Owner is the person who owns and occupies the home when the product is first installed. This applies to a single-family detached home, townhome, or condominium unit. PGT defines the Lifetime Limited Warranty for that person as lasting 'for as long as they own and occupy the Dwelling as their personal residence.' All Other Owners receive a 10-Year Limited Warranty, which caps frame, panel, and insulated-glass obstruction coverage at 10 years. All Other Owners includes commercial property owners, HOAs, and rental-unit owners. It also includes all subsequent buyers and dealers or builders who hold the product in inventory. The warranty is transferable. PGT places the responsibility clearly: 'each Product owner is responsible for passing this Warranty to the next Owner before or at the time of sale.' Knowing which tier applies to you before filing a claim saves a lot of time. South Florida homeowners who purchased through a licensed installer for a PGT impact window or door project should confirm their delivery date. The delivery date can be found using the Sales Order (SO) number. That number is printed on the metal spacer between the panes of glass.

For frame and panel material, PGT will offer a remedy for 'excessive bowing, blistering, chipping, cracking, peeling, corroding or pitting of the frame or panel material affecting normal use and operation of the Product.' On insulated glass units (IGUs), PGT covers a material obstruction of vision through the glass. This includes obstruction due to dust, moisture, or chemical outgassing on an internal IGU surface. Coverage is 20 years for the Residential Dwelling Owner and 10 years for all others. Delamination in a laminated or impact IGU is covered for 10 years regardless of owner tier. A nonconformity in blinds-between-glass causing a material obstruction of vision is also covered for 10 years. Stress cracks carry a 1-year remedy period. Finish coverage varies by product type. Standard painted or powdercoat aluminum finishes and vinyl Capstock finishes are covered for 10 years. Coverage applies against excessive peeling, checking, cracking, chalking, fading, or color change. Aluminum with a superior performance painted or powdercoat finish is covered for 20 years. Hardware nonconformities in material or workmanship affecting normal use and operation are covered for 10 years. Weatherstripping and screens each carry a 1-year remedy period.

Labor, Shipping, and What PGT Pays vs. What You Pay
PGT's labor and shipping terms under the 2026 Replacement Product Warranty are more defined than in prior versions.
PGT's labor and shipping terms under the 2026 Replacement Product Warranty are more defined than in prior versions. PGT 'will provide Skilled Labor necessary to complete the Remedy or pay shipping costs for Claims made within 2 years of the Delivery Date if the structure is located within PGT's Service Territory at the time of Product purchase.' PGT's Service Territory covers products installed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. Beyond that 2-year window, an owner in the Service Territory is responsible for 'any inspection, labor, disposal/recycling and shipping costs for a Claim received more than 2 years after the Delivery Date.' PGT also specifies that it 'will not provide or pay for any labor when a complete replacement unit is provided,' and that 'all other labor (e.g. replacing hardware) is not covered.' If your product is not accessible with a 15-foot extension ladder, you must provide scaffolding or lift equipment at your own expense. PGT's liability at all times 'will not exceed the price of the affected Product.' For homeowners considering an impact window installation in the South Florida market, understanding these cost boundaries before the first project day matters as much as understanding the glass specifications.
How to File a PGT Windows Warranty Claim
- Discover and Document Within 30 Days — PGT requires that 'Owner must submit claims within 30 days of discovering the perceived condition.' Photograph the defect immediately. If the product is in a location requiring a ladder, arrange safe access before the photos. Do not attempt to repair or adjust the product before PGT evaluates the claim, as modifications can void coverage.
- Locate Your Order Number and Delivery Date — Your Sales Order (SO) number is printed on the metal spacer between the panes of glass, in the top corner of the window or patio door. The delivery date is the start of every coverage period. Gather both before making contact. Also pull the warranty document version that shipped with your order to confirm which effective date governs your claim.
- Contact Your Distributor First — PGT says the owner 'should contact their distributor to make a claim.' If you cannot reach your distributor, proceed to step 4.
- Submit Directly to PGT If Needed — If unable to reach the distributor, 'Owner should submit a claim to PGT at www.PGTWindows.com/service-request or by calling (800) 282-6019.' Your notice must include your contact information, order number, a description of each product and the condition, and photographs unless genuinely unobtainable. PGT 'has no obligation to provide any Remedy under this Warranty until a complete claim is submitted.'
- Register Your Warranty to Simplify the Process — PGT's registration page states: 'Registering your warranty simplifies your service experience, should you ever require it.' With your Sales Order Number handy, you can register at pgtwindows.com/warranty/register-your-warranty. The form asks for the Order Number and the property owner's name, address, email, and phone. Registration is not shown to be required for coverage, but it creates a searchable record that speeds up future claims.
PGT's warranty is PGT's obligation, not your installer's. Keep your Sales Order number, delivery date, and the exact warranty version you received. Without those 3 items, your claim starts at a disadvantage.
Key Exclusions and Maintenance Duties Under the 2026 Warranty
- Installation and Code Violations — No remedy is available for conditions caused in whole or in part by 'installation' or 'an application in violation of applicable codes, plans, specifications, or good building practices.' Every SafeGuard permit is filed with the Florida Product Approval or Miami-Dade NOA number for each product installed, which creates a traceable record that the installation met code.
- Films, Tints, and Modifications — Alterations or modifications of the product, 'including reinstallation or the application of tints, films, sealant, caulk or paint finishes,' void coverage for the affected unit. If you are considering low-e or tinted impact glass options, select those options at the factory rather than applying aftermarket films post-installation.
- Power Washing and Harsh Chemicals — PGT explicitly excludes damage from 'power washing or the use of harsh chemicals such as brick wash, acids, salts, abrasive cleaners, or solvents.' The MITER Brands Care and Maintenance Guide, linked from PGT's site, lists 'a power washer or garden hose' among items that 'may void your warranty and/or damage your products.'
- Lack of Monthly Panel Operation — PGT excludes coverage for 'lack of use of operable Product (panels should be opened and closed monthly).' Operable panels that are never moved can develop hardware and weatherstripping problems that PGT will not remedy if inactivity caused the condition.
- Caulking and Coastal Maintenance — Caulking or sealants between the product and exterior cladding or trim 'is not part of the Product and is not covered by this Warranty. It is a maintenance item that is the responsibility of the Owner.' In coastal areas, the MITER Brands Care and Maintenance Guide recommends cleaning all materials at least once a month and lubricating hardware twice a year.

The 08/2019 PGT residential warranty still draws search traffic because it was the dominant version for years, but its terms differ from the 2026 Replacement Product Warranty in several important ways. The 2019 document covered products 'ONLY THOSE PGT PRODUCTS INSTALLED IN OWNER-OCCUPIED RESIDENTIAL HOMES' and warranted to 'the original residential homeowner' only, with no transferability provision. The 2026 document makes the warranty explicitly transferable and expands coverage to a broader set of owner types under the 10-year tier. On labor, the 2019 document stated that 'PGT SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LABOR OR DELIVERY COSTS INCURRED IN REPAIRING OR REPLACING THE PRODUCTS.' The 2026 document introduces the 2-year skilled labor and shipping provision within the Service Territory. The 2019 table covered insulating glass at 100% for years 0-25 and at 50% of the glass price from year 26, and set hardware at 5 years on WinGuard Aluminum (10 years on PVD and stainless-steel hardware) but Lifetime on WinGuard Vinyl and EnergyVue. The 2026 document restructures those to 20-year IGU material obstruction coverage and 10-year hardware coverage with no proration table. The 30-day claim submission deadline is explicit in the 2026 document; the 2019 version said only 'promptly after discovery.' The customer-service phone number also changed: the 2019 document listed 877-550-6006, while the 2026 document lists (800) 282-6019. Both versions start coverage periods on the delivery date, not installation. Homeowners comparing their options with CGI windows and doors should apply the same document-version discipline to that brand's warranty as well.
What to Keep on File for Any Future PGT Warranty Claim
5 records form the foundation of any successful PGT warranty claim. These are: the Sales Order (SO) number, the delivery date, and the exact warranty document version.
5 records form the foundation of any successful PGT warranty claim. These are: the Sales Order (SO) number, the delivery date, and the exact warranty document version. Also required are photographs of the product condition taken within 30 days of discovery. You also need the building permit along with its Florida Product Approval or Miami-Dade NOA number. Note the effective date and document number, such as MA0200810, on the warranty version. The SO number is physically embedded in every PGT unit on the metal spacer between the glass panes. This means it survives lost paperwork. The delivery date starts every coverage period, not the installation date or permit-issue date. Confirm the delivery date from the sales receipt or delivery confirmation. If you are unsure which warranty version applies, PGT's site links all 3 current documents. The effective date on each document tells you the governing version. SafeGuard runs 20 in-house crews full-time. That is a scale most South Florida contractors cannot match without subcontracting field work. Each project therefore has a clear chain of custody from permit to delivery to installation. Homeowners can review the PGT vs. CGI comparison for a side-by-side look at specifications, price ranges, and availability.
The Florida Building Code requires impact windows and doors in South Florida to carry a valid Product Approval or Miami-Dade NOA number on the permit. Verify your contractor's license before any installation. Use the Florida DBPR contractor lookup to do so. Improper installation is a warranty exclusion under the 2026 PGT document.

Common Questions
What is the effective date of the current PGT warranty?
PGT's current Replacement Product Warranty, document MA0200810, has an effective date of September 1, 2026 and covers windows and doors manufactured after that date for installation into an existing structure in the United States. Products manufactured before that date may be governed by the 12/2025 document (MA0200731) or the older 08/2019 version, so homeowners should check the effective date on the document that shipped with their order.
How does PGT define 'Lifetime' in the Lifetime Limited Warranty?
PGT defines the Lifetime Limited Warranty as lasting for as long as the Residential Dwelling Owner owns and occupies the dwelling as their personal residence. Once the home is sold, the new owner receives the 10-Year Limited Warranty, measured from the original delivery date.
Does PGT pay for labor on warranty claims?
PGT provides skilled labor or pays shipping costs only for claims made within 2 years of the delivery date if the structure is located within PGT's Service Territory, which includes Florida. For claims submitted more than 2 years after delivery, even within the Service Territory, the owner is responsible for all inspection, labor, disposal, recycling, and shipping costs. PGT also does not cover labor when a complete replacement unit is provided.
How do I file a PGT warranty claim?
PGT requires that you submit a claim within 30 days of discovering the condition. First, contact your distributor or installer. If you cannot reach them, submit a claim at PGTWindows.com/service-request or call PGT at (800) 282-6019. Your notice must include your contact information, order number, a description of each affected product and the condition, and photographs unless genuinely unobtainable. PGT has no obligation to provide a remedy until a complete claim is submitted.
What voids the PGT Replacement Product Warranty?
The 2026 PGT Replacement Product Warranty excludes conditions caused by installation errors or code violations, alterations such as applied tints or films, power washing, use of harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, failure to operate operable panels monthly, and damage from acts of nature including wind-driven rain during high-wind events. Glass breakage, other than stress cracks within 1 year, is also excluded.
How does the 2019 PGT warranty differ from the 2026 version?
Several material differences exist. The 2019 document covered only the original residential homeowner with no transferability, excluded all labor and shipping costs, listed hardware coverage at 5 years on WinGuard Aluminum (10 years for PVD and stainless-steel hardware) and Lifetime on WinGuard Vinyl and EnergyVue, and covered insulating glass at 100% for 25 years and at 50% of the glass price from year 26 table. The 2026 document makes the warranty transferable, introduces a 2-year skilled labor and shipping provision within PGT's Service Territory, restructures insulating glass coverage to a 20-year material-obstruction term, sets hardware at 10 years, and establishes a 30-day explicit claim submission deadline. The customer service phone number also changed from 877-550-6006 to (800) 282-6019.
